Wiltshire Climate Alliance is starting to do fantastic things and has a great website. It is organising working groups on Energy, Engagement and other things – all on zoom so it’s easier than ever to join.

Transition Swindon has a great catalogue of local groups and resources on their website, and are also having regular informal zoom chats.

The CHEESE project, motivating rapid and cost-effective action to reduce energy waste in homes, is an excellent Bristol organisation that we plan to replicate in Swindon

Swindon Cycle Campaign: Working in partnership with public, private and voluntary sector organisations, SCC aims to increase the number of people cycling in the borough of Swindon. There is also good cycling information at http://www.swindontravelchoices.co.uk/cycle/

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust was set up in 1962 to campaign and take action to protect the natural environment. Since then the Trust has grown to become one of the UK’s leading environmental charities, working to create a sustainable future for wildlife and people.

Plastic Free Swindon is a campaign sparked by the Blue Planet film that aims to increase awareness of the serious environmental and chemical problems with plastic (including synthetic clothing fibres), reduce plastic pollution of land and sea, and reduce the amount of fossil fuel that is used to make plastic.

The Met Office Hadley Centre is one of the UK’s foremost climate change research centres.

The CAT Zero Carbon Britain project has excellent resources setting out a vision for how zero-carbon targets can be achieved with plenty of underpinning evidence and analysis, and lots of practical information on low impact living, technologies, nature and growing . The Climate Emergency website has a large collection of UK council action plans aiming to achieve net-zero with different levels of ambition

Scientists for XR has lots of useful scientific resources and references

Carbon Brief has a good summary of temperature targets and emission reduction pathways and why action is becoming really urgent now

Environmental Working Group have a good analysis of the environmental impacts of different foods that helps explain why reducing meat and dairy is so important

National Climate-related Campaign Organisations

Friends of the Earth is committed to the protection and improvement of the environment, a good life for everyone who lives on our planet and a green economy that respects the limits of the natural world. SCAN has an affiliation with FoE.

Greener UK is a coalition of campaign groups with excellent briefings on emerging legislation and other issues.

Global Justice Now are a leader in campaigning against an unnecessary US trade deal which would only serve to hinder government action on climate change, environmental and rights issues.

Rising Tide is a grassroots international network of groups and individuals who take direct action to confront the root causes of climate change and to promote local, community-based solutions to the climate crisis.

The Climate Coalition is the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action against climate change. They represent over 130 organisations across the UK, including the Women’s Institute, the National Trust, and the RSPB.

Greenpeace aim to defend the natural world and promote peace by investigating, exposing and confronting environmental abuse, and championing responsible solutions for our fragile environment.
