Crochet – sleeping mats for homeless people from reused plastic bags
10:30 to 12:30
07-02-20

Step up the Swindon community.  We are providing some love and compassion for our brothers and sisters in need through the art of crochet.  The sleeping mats that we’re making help keep cold and wet from seeping into clothing and bedding.  They are made from reused plastic; respect for the environment.  This article shows what we’re aiming for, it includes an instructional video.

If you’d like to come along, you don’t need any crocheting experience.  This is a chilled out event, friendly, relaxed.  All are welcome.  Children to be accompanied by a responsible adult(s), thanks.

The number of homeless people in the UK has dramatically risen over the last 10 years.  Imagine living outside in Winter, with the recent storms and rain.  Many homeless people die on the streets.  The last year we have on record, 2018, 726 homeless people died on the streets in the UK, a 22% rise on the year before.  On average, homeless people die at 44 years old…  That’s atrocious, we can do so much better.  Be the change…

Venue: The Baker’s Cafe, 16 Emlyn Square, Swindon, SN1 5BN.
